ABOUT THE FAMILY

After the spread of Islam, the branches of our tribe migrated to different parts of the Arabian Peninsula. Some decided to settle in Al Basrah while others returned to Al Hijaz (Western Saudi Arabia), Najd (Central Saudi Arabia), and Yemen. Additionally, few members of the tribe migrated and settled in the Arab-ruled Muslim land of Persia. Our Ancestors settled on the Eastern coast of the Arabian Gulf and made their objective to spread the message of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and the teachings of the True religion; Islam. While there, they managed to establish a reputation of being just and being characterized with high moral values and good conduct. This led people to elect them to manage their affairs. The reign of our ancestors in this region (especially the region of Hormuz) continued for centuries. The last King of Hormuz was Sheikh Ahmed Al Kendi, the grandfather of Kazim.

Sheikh Ahmed Al Kendi’s son Sheikh Muhammad married the daughter of Jamal Tajuddeen, the ruler of Karmostaj (a Sunni city in Southern Persia). The fruits of this marriage were five offspring of whom comes our grandfather Kazim. Kazim lived in Lenjah and was a well known merchant. His trade extended all the way to Yemen and Al Basra. His descendants migrated to Dubai and settled there while his brothers descendants each migrated to different areas of the Arabian Peninsula and Southern Persia.

MohammedAqeel bin Abdurraheem bin Kazim was born in Lenjah. His father recognized in him intelligence and farsightedness as well as courage from a very young age. He also loved to seek knowledge and share it with others, especially the knowledge of Shari’ah and Islam. This led him to pursue his education in Al Madinah Al Munawara (Saudi Arabia). He was sent by his father to Dubai at the age of 13 to expand his trade. While in Dubai, MohammedAqeel lived in the Shandagha Area which was inhabited mainly by the Ruler and a few other citizens. The area was characterized by houses made of straw and hay. After maturing, he got married to one of his relatives who gave birth to Abdullah, MohammedSaleh, Ahmed, and Abdulraheem. After the demise of his wife, he remarried a woman who gave birth to MohammedSiddeeq and Kaltham. Additionally, he also had a daughter called Maryam from his slave woman.

After the demise of his first wife, the Ruler at the time advised MohammedAqeel to build a house a little further from Shindagha Area. He then decided to choose Al Hamriya in Bur Dubai as his place of residence and built the first coral house in Dubai. After his residence of the area, many families and tribes from Southern Persia came to the same area fleeing the oppression of the Safavid rule while others came purely for trade. The new settlers built houses close to the residence of MohammedAqeel Kazim which transformed the area to a neighborhood and was subsequently named “Al Bastakiyah” sinc ethe majority of its inhabitants were from Bastak (a Sunni city in Southern Persia).

May Allah have mercy on our forefathers and all deceasedMuslims and may He grant them His highest levels of Paradise.
